TOURISM ASSESSORS COMPLETED TOURISM MINIMUM STANDARDS WORKHOP

The Tourism Department organized a three days workshop on the newly approved tourism minimum standards for accommodations before the Easter break.

The workshop brought participants from the Provincial tourism officers, Honiara City Council, the Tourism Department staff, and the staff of the Solomon Islands Visitors Bureau who will be the assessors of the tourism minimum standards on accommodations.

During the opening of the workshop, the Permanent Secretary of Culture and Tourism Andrew Nihopara commended the excellent work of the Tourism minimum standards committee and the support of the Australian Business Volunteers program to provide the technical expertise through a volunteer who has work tirelessly in the past months with the committee.

"By having this tourism minimum standard for the first time, it is a great step forward for the Solomon Islands tourism sector. As it will help the tourism sector in giving the quality assurance to our potential visitors", said Nihopara.

The Solomon Islands Tourism Accommodation Minimum Standards have been approved by the Solomon Islands Cabinet by the end of 2017. And now the rolling out of its implementation is about to start after the awareness to the stakeholders, especially the tourism accommodation operators.
